NEW EVENT!
​Newton Fest Story Time

• 10:30 a.m. Newton Public Library
Children ages 3-9 years old (siblings also welcome) can enjoy a special story time on the lawn by Sir RustoLot, the library dragon. The library also will launch the Sir Rust-o-Lot fan club. The event is free and open to the public. In the event of rain the event will be inside the library.

Alumni Author Reception
• 4-6 p.m. Newton Public Library 
Newton High School alumni will be on hand to talk about their published works. Artist Jaci Thomason will also be offering copies of coloring books, featuring scenes from Newton. This event is free and open to the public.

NEW EVENT!
​Lemonade in the Shade presents The Bill Riley Talent Search 

• 6:30 p.m. Maytag Bowl
Talented children will compete in two divisions for a chance to be part of the Bill Riley Talent Show at the Iowa State Fair. Competition is open in the Sprout (2-12) and Senior (13-21) divsions. Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three contestants in each division. Registration is now open. Contact Jessica at [email protected] to register.
Lemonade and pizza by the slice will be available for purchase with proceeds supporting Fairy Godmothers and Newton Fest.

​Project AWAKE's Annual The Birds & The Bees 8K Fun Run
• 7-8 a.m. Check In/Register at Sunset Park
• 8 a.m. Race begins at Sunset Park
•  9 a.m. Kids race begins

Fee: $25
The Birds and Bees race is back and better for 2016. Proceeds from the 8K race will support the Newton Arboretum.Participants are encouraged to take part in a costume contest!. Awards will be given to individuals who look most like a gardener, a backyard animal, a flower, and to whoever is wearing the brightest clothing.

Join local historian Larry Hurto for a walking tour of historic churches in downtown Newton. The walk includes eight historic churches including First United Methodist Church, United Presbyterian Church, First Presbyterian Church, Salvation Army, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, First Lutheran Church, Congregational United Church of Christ, and First Christian Church.

• 4 p.m. Tournament Begins
Take part in a fun new event on Saturday afternoon in the Newton Fest Bags Tournament. Teams can register at the Bags Tent on the Courthouse Lawn. Cost is $20 per team for the double elimination tournament. First and second place winners will take home cash prizes. ​Chalk The Walk Chalk Art Competition

• 4-7 p.m. Downtown Newton ~ Northside of Square
Creativity will be on display during the new Newton Fest event Chalk the Walk Chalk Art Competition. Individuals, businesses and organizations will compete for prizes and bragging rights during the colorful and fun art competition. Trophies will be awarded to Best Theme and Most Creative. A trophy and a $50 Casey's gift card will be awarded to Best in Show. The event is free and open to all to participate. Pre-registration required. Spaces will be assigned to each registrant and basic chalk colors will be provided (participants can bring their own chalk supplies as well). ​

Enjoy a non-denominational worship service for the entire community. Those attending are asked to bring blankets and lawn chairs for seating. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy following church services.
