CHALK THE WALK ART COMPETItION
Creativity will be on display during the new Newton Fest event Chalk the Walk Chalk Art Competition from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, June 11. Individuals, businesses and organizations will compete for prizes and bragging rights during the colorful and fun art competition. Trophies will be awarded to Best Theme and Most Creative. A trophy and a $50 Casey's gift card will be awarded to Best in Show. The event is free and open to all to participate. Pre-registration required. Spaces will be assigned to each registrant and basic chalk colors will be provided (participants can bring their own chalk supplies as well). The event is sponsored by Buena Visty University in Newton.

BILL RILEY TALENT SEARCH
Area youth will have a chance to share their talents during 2016’s Newton Fest newly added Bill Riley Talent Search in June.
The talent show is set for TBA p.m. Thursday, June 8, at Maytag Bowl in Maytag Park. The show is free and open to the public.
The Bill Riley Talent Search, which started in 1960, offers an opportunity to help young Iowans express themselves and share their talents, while learning about the dedication needed to excel. The Bill Riley Talent Search was founded with the goal to promote self-esteem, self-discipline and self-confidence through participation in the performing arts. Young Iowans are invited to register to compete in the Sprout Division (ages 2-12) and Senior Division (ages 13-21). Contestant rules and information is available at www.billrileytalentsearch.com.
The winning act from each division will qualify to compete at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, August 2017 with prize money at the Iowa State Fair championship. Registration for the Newton talent show is now open. To register, download the registration form and return it to Newton Fest, PO Box 844, Newton, IA 50208. Pre-registration is encouraged as only 15 slots are open in each category.

Newton Fest attracts thousands of people to Newton and they come hungry. In addition to the many wonderful restaurants in Newotn, the Newton Fest committee is seeking food vendors to be a part of the event on Saturday, June 11. Information on how to be a food vendor and the registration form is available to download here. Cost is $100 before May 15 and $150 after May 15 so register early.

COOL CARS AROUND THE COuRtHOUSE
The Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Cool Cars Around the Courthouse Car Show on Saturday, June 11, in downtown Newton. The 2016 car show is bigger and better than last year with more categories, bigger trophies and more prizes!!
Prizes will be given out to Top 10 Stock and Top 10 Modified cars. Trophies will be awarded to the Top 3 winners in each category and to the winner of Best In Show. The car show will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Cars can set up at 9 a.m. with first come, first park. To register your vehicle contact the Chamber office at (641) 792-5545. |
